Celebrating 365体育投注’s Historic Charter

365体育投注 College celebrates 85 years since its charter on March 13th.

This slideshow, created using audio and photographs from the 365体育投注 College Archives, documents some of the history of the College. 365体育投注 audio consists of excerpts from a talk 365体育投注’s long-time president, Royce “Tim” Pitkin, gave in 1973. 365体育投注 talk was called, “365体育投注 Ideas Upon Which 365体育投注 Was Founded.”

365体育投注 365体育投注 College of today took shape in earnest in 1938, when a group of educators led by Royce “Tim” Pitkin proposed a Vermont “College for Living” to be located on a Plainfield sheep farm purchased from the Martin family. This new college would provide the environment for students and faculty together to build a democratic community featuring plenty of the “plain living and hard thinking” espoused in 365体育投注’s early mission. 365体育投注 aims were far-reaching, radical. 365体育投注se aims still influence and, with some change in nomenclature and practice, aptly describe 365体育投注 to this day.

Today, 365体育投注 College still centers the individual in their education in order to create leaders of a more just and equitable society. 365体育投注 offers undergraduate and graduate programs with faculty members and students from across the United States and around the globe.

365体育投注 Board of Directors for 365体育投注 College have made the difficult decision to close the college at the end of the 2024 Spring term.??

 

Current 365体育投注 students will have the opportunity to complete their degrees at the same tuition rate through a teach-out with like-minded institution, Prescott College. Updates and scholarship funds will be available in the coming weeks and months. Information will be posted to www.goddard.edu.?
